- "Affordable excellence"? I think so! Review by Markc
I've now been using the Onyx for over a year, and it continues to give superb results. It replaced a rewired RB250 with OL counterweight on my Ace Spacedeck. The immediate impression on installation was that it made the old arm sound pretty agricultural! There were no real set-up problems and everything is easy to adjust. My Onyx came with what appears to be one of the heavier counterweight options and has no problem balancing a heavy Ortofon MC Rondo. The smoothness and transparency, with startlingly low groove noise, remain a constant joy, so I'm in no hurry to change it. Mind you, that Zephyr looks pretty tasty... (Posted on 23/06/2013)
- Now I really enjoy playing LP Review by hoi
It drops fit to my mod P-25 and boy partnering with Denon DL-103 it 's so quiet I can barely tell if the diamond tip is still riding the groove. Recording and mastering skills of the LPs are obvious before I dislike bad ones but unable to tell why. I like the Onyx surprised by its modest looking cable and connectors music still sounds that good. Upgrading them are the way to go but then there is the Silver Tonearm. (Posted on 19/05/2013)
- Transformational upgrade! Review by AB
I have had one of the OL modified Rega arms for a long time, and was looking to upgrade cartridge. A phone call with Mark - who was both very helpful and knowledgeable - persuaded me to rethink. Rather than upgrading the cartridge, I ordered an Onyx.
The results have been fantastic. Set up was pretty straightforward, and even before the arm cables were burned in, there was an immediate transformation compared with my former setup. Probably one of the very best upgrades I have done. Just changing this one component has improved the mid range, lifted noise and colouration, and even revealed the presence of a couple of instruments I had never heard before on recordings I know well.
I'm still in the burn in phase, but am already delighted with the arm. Beautifully made, and in my view a match for most arms at much higher prices.
(My deck is a Michell Gyro SE with Dynavector DV20 cartridge - a combination which seems really suited for the arm). (Posted on 19/05/2013)
