Origin Live newsletter No 3 5th November 2003 Firstly, we wish all of you a happy new year and most enjoyable listening. This 3rd newsletter is relatively short but does contain significant news so we trust you will appreciate it. CONTENTS1. Voted best sound at Show Voted best sound at the showWe want you to be able to experience the ultimate available in terms of reproduced sound quality and always enjoy hearing the positive feedback we receive. At a recent show in Vienna all those attending voted on the best sounding room. We were very heartened to hear that our German distributor Preference audio had won the vote for the best sounding room using the Origin Live Resolution turntable and Illustrious tonearm - this was against some of the biggest names in the business. Great quality really isn't difficult to recognise. A big thank you to all of you who voted for us. Trust your own judgement above what you read in printThe above story is to encourage you to always make up your own mind on a product and not to distrust your judgement - the fact is that unless you know certain reviewers, you can be diabolically misled by trusting what you read in print. There are all sorts of reasons for this situation which we would rather not go into. Although we appreciate much of what the magazines do and have no desire to undermine confidence, we feel obliged to urge you to listen to the options first if you wish to safeguard the decisions you make with regard to equipment. I was speaking last week to a senior expert in the recording industry who wishes to remain anonymous. The individual concerned had carried out exhaustive research on over 70 tonearms in the market place in consultation with others. It was concluded that an Origin Live arm was the best. I asked him how he had tracked us down and he said that there's an old Chinese proverb which says "If a product is good, the people who care about quality will find it even if it's in the middle of a forest". Thankfully there is a strong element of truth in this statement. Renaming of Illustrious Signature tonearmThe Illustrious Signature tonearm has been renamed "Conqueror" due to the fact that it is actually a lot different to the Illustrious. why our products carry the names they doSome people ask us why we name our products the way we do. About 7 years ago or so whilst reading the account on the battle of Trafalga I noticed what incredible names the fighting ships of those days were called. In days gone by, the battle was to keep free of Napoleons threat of world domination - so well portrayed in the current blockbuster film "Master and Commander on the far side of the world". We like the names of these ships because they so well express the spirit of our very minor battle against the technical obstacles to great sound quality. There are other links that ships have with sound reproduction - namely that Ships have to cope well with waves both structurally and for comfort of the users - in the realm of Hi Fi we are designing in the environment of structural vibration waves, air bourn waves and electromagnetic waves - all of which have elements in common with waves in water. Unveiling of the sovereign turntable at cesThe final production version of the new Sovereign deck at £3850 is now available and will be showing for the first time at CES - Las Vegas in January 2004. For those attending the show the decks are being shown at - Alexis Park - Rooms AP1801 and AP2251. This deck has very nice looks but more importantly the sound quality is truly staggering. We are not great believers in talking about innovation and patents as it is not these things that guarantee great sound quality which is what we always strive to deliver to owners. However these decks do incorporate what we believe is the FIRST semi-suspended sub-chassis design which gives the best of both worlds between suspended sub-chassis decks and fixed plinth designs. As a leader in sound quality we expect imitations by rival manufacturers to appear eventually but don't forget where you saw it first. Technical Support & troubleshootingIf you ever experience a problem such as hum or any other fault with your Origin Live equipment we now have a quick first port of call for you to sort out any problems. This is a section on our web site called "technical support" and includes answers to most of the problems you could ever experience.
